World Water Day 2021
The National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) celebrated World Water Day (WWD) 2021 with the theme “Valuing Water”. WWD is celebrated annually on March 22 and provides a remarkable opportunity to highlight the importance of water, and bring forth issues and challenges to the public’s attention. It is focused on a specific theme every year in order to allow for targeted advocacy and awareness campaigns and activities.

Meeting with RUB on Programme Proposal
The National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) had a meeting with the officials and lecturers of the Royal University of Bhutan on March 17, 2021, to present the proposal for an “Engineering Programme in Environment with Specialization in Water Resources Management”.

E-Flow Phase II: Inception Workshop
The Water Resources Coordination Division conducted the Inception Workshop for the project ‘Study on Minimum Environmental Flow for Hydropower Projects in Bhutan – Phase II’ from February 25-26, 2021. The project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency and is implemented by the National Environment Commission Secretariat in collaboration with key stakeholders, from November 2019 to April 2022.

The fifth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) 22-23 February, 2021 virtual meeting
Hon’ble Secretary, NEC participates at the Fifth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) on 22-23 February, 2021. The UNEA is the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment. Bhutan will delivered its national statement on 23rd February, 2021.
The Theme of UNEA-5 is “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”.

E-flow Phase II: 3rd Project Steering Committee meeting
The Water Resources Coordination Division conducted the 3rd Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting for the project ‘Study on Minimum Environmental Flow for Hydropower Projects in Bhutan – Phase II’ on February 8, 2021. Phase II of the project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and is implemented by the National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) in collaboration with key stakeholders, from November 2019 to April 2022.

Deadline extension for consultancy to assess and determine grid emission factor for Bhutan
In continuation to the earlier announcement on the invitation of interested International and National Consultant to submit the Request for Expression of Interest for the consultancy service to “assess and determine grid emission factor for Bhutan based on the attractiveness of different types of greenhouse gas mitigation options”, the National Environment Commission Secretariat would like to extend the deadline till 15th February 2021 for the submission. Virtual training of trainers on ecology note
23rd -27th January 2021: The National Environment Commission Secretariat is conducting virtual Training of Trainers on Ecology Note to more than 470 science teachers teaching classes 4-8 across the country for 5 days. The teachers were divided into 5 groups, each group participating for a day. The Day-1 of the Program on 23rd January 2021 was graciously opened by the keynote speakers- Honourable Secretary of NECS, Director General of Department of School Education, Ministry of Education, and Director of IGES Centre collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies.
